Social-emotional learning enhances students' capacity to integrate skills, attitudes, and behaviors to deal effectively and ethically with daily tasks and challenges. Participants will learn fun and engaging strategies through the art of dance, movement, and theatre to enhance students' awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. We will use space and movement to explore the boundaries of social awareness. (This workshop is designed for those new to arts integration professional development or those who have attended previous CUSD arts professional development and would benefit from a refresher.) A beautiful way to start the school year, attendees will be able to integrate dance, theatre, and movement strategies that incorporate social and emotional learning opportunities and allow students to connect deeply to the classroom community and their learning. Teachers will be provided with written lessons, resources, and posters with vocabulary of the arts. Additionally, teachers may follow up with coaching and modeling during the school year with our Arts TOSA and SALTs. This workshop will provide participants with the time and space to experience a sense of relaxation and wellness. Staff will benefit from incorporating dance and theatre strategies to enhance student learning, engagement, and mental wellness. This session's content is aligned with culturally responsive teaching that strengthens students' sense of identity, promotes equity and inclusivity, and engages and supports critical thinking.
